Humayun tomb in Delhi is one of the popular tourist attractions. This is located Opposite to Dargah Nizamuddin. Tomb is made as Mughal architecture by “Mirak Mirza Ghiyath”. This place open from 6am to 6pm every day.

HISTORY OF HUMAYUN TOMB IN DELHI –

Humayun Tomb is a tomb made by Mughal emperor Humayun in Delhi India. Humayun first wife “Bega Begum” gives an order to make Humayun tomb. This tomb was designed by” Mirak Mirza Ghiyas” and his son. Humayun tomb was the first garden tomb of India. This tomb is near to "Purana Qila" that was founded by Humayun in 1553.
Humayun tomb in Delhi was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. The construction of this tomb completed in 1572 with cost of 1.5 Million rupee of that time. English merchant”William Finch “who visited the tomb in 1611, describes the rich interior furnishing of the central chamber. He mentioned the presence of rich carpets, and a shamiana. A small tent above the cenotaph, which was covered with a pure white sheet and with copies of the Quran in front along with his sword, turban and shoes.
During the Partition of India, in August 1947 the Purana Qila together with Humayun's Tomb, became major refugee camps for Muslims migrating to the newly founded Pakistan, and was later managed by the government of India. These camps stayed open for about five years, and caused considerable damage not only to the extensive gardens, but also to the water channels and the principal structures. After Archaeological Survey of India take their responsibility to maintain Humayun tomb properly.

ARCHITECTURE AND AREA-

Humayun’s Tomb stands within a complex of 27.04 ha. Humayun’s garden-tomb is an example of the charbagh (a four quadrant garden with the four rivers of Quranic paradise represented), with pools joined by channels. Humayun’s garden-tomb is also called the ‘dormitory of the Mughals’ as in the cells are buried over 150 Mughal family members. The body of the emperor was buried in two different locations before being transported to Humayun’s tomb.

Entry Fee:

Rs. 10 per head for citizens of India, visitors of SAARC and BIMSTEC Countries. Rs. 250 per head for foreign nationals. Children up to 15 years do not require entry fee.

How to reach here -

Humayun’s Tomb lies on the yellow line and the nearest metro station to Humayun’s tomb is Jor Bagh on the yellow line or JLN Stadium on the purple line, depending on which route you are travelling.
