What is the public transport in Chiang Mai Thailand
There are many ways of transport in Chiang Mai.Here is the public transport in Chiang Mai.
1.RTC CITY BUS -
This mode of transport launce in 2018 in Chiang Mai and one of the cheapest modes of transportation.
The fare of the RTC City bus is only 30 Baht per ride. The buses also offer free WiFi.
These bus stop only designated bus stop. If you want to STOP the bus just wave your arms then put 30 Baht in a box inside the bus.
You can also use the Rabit stored value card to pay the fare. You just need to tap the card in the machine inside the bus.
You can also get a Tourist card for these buses. By using a tourist card you can travel unlimited for 1 day. It will cost 180 Baht.
You can purchase the rabbit and tourist card from RTC counters in Chiang Mai International Airport (exit door No.1), Central Festival Mall, and Promenada Mall.
You can also buy these cards from the bus driver.
This Rabit card you can also use in Bangkok MRT and BTS.
You can also track any RTC bus and bus stop by using a mobile app known as CM Transit by RTC.
2.SONGTHAEWS -
These are small trucks with two big benches in the back. Songthaews are the most commonly used public transportation in Chaing Mai.
The color of the Sangthaews here is red. They known as Rot Daeng means Red vehicle in Chiang Mai.

- Chang Phueak Bus Terminal
- Arcade Transport
- L Baan Khwan Wiang
If you want to stop a Songthaews just wave your one arm and befoe board just ask the price till your destination.
The price in Songthaews starts from 30 Baht.
You can also hire a private Songthawes just ask the driver. They are always ready for it.
3.BUSES -
You can get a bus in Chiang Mai to another nearest stop from Chang Phuak Bus Station and Arcade Bus Station.
4.TUK TUK -
These will be a little expansive then Songthaews and the same price as a Taxi. You can easily find Tuk-Tuk anywhere in Chiang Mai. Always set a price first before riding in Tuk-Tuk.
Tuk - Tuk price starts from 60 Baht and for a longer ride, it can be 200 Baht.
5.UBER AND GRAB -
Yes, you can also use the Uber and Grab App in Chiang Mai. They are the best and convenient way to go around.
6. RENT A SCOOTER -
To rent a scooter you should have a driving license and travel insurance.
Always check the vehicle before riding it. Just take the photo before riding if there is any damage in the vehicle.
You need to ride on the left side of the road.
Don’t leave your original passport from where you get the scooter. Then you need to deposit some amount of cash with them.
It will cost you 100 to 200 Baht for 1 day depending on a scooter.
7.MINIBUS -
The color of the minibus are white and running in 2 routes in Chiang Mai. The fare is only 15 Baht.
Route 1 = Arcade Bus Terminal to Chiang Mai Zoo
Route 2 = Arcade Bus Terminal to the airport
If you are going in between these route you can ride in a minivan.
8.SAMLOR -
Samlor which is also known as Thai Rickshaw is a 3 wheel vehicle in Chiang Mai. You can also find them in most of the tourist places here.
9. RENT A BICYCLE -
You can easily rent a bicycle in Chiang Mai it will cost around 50 Baht for 1 day.
10.MOTORBIKE TAXI -
These taxies are available in Chang Phueak Bus Station and Arcade Bus Station. The driver of a motorbike taxi wears a pink coat. The fare starts from 50 Baht.
11. RENT A CAR -
This is also the best way of transportation in Chaing Mai. It will cost you 800 to 1000 Baht per day. Use your mobile data for navigation.
You can easily rent a car in the old city in Chiang Mai. You need an international driving license.
You need to submit your passport or 10000 Baht as a deposit.
