Yi Peng or Yee ping festival in Chiang Mai is celebrated every year between October and November months. You can check its correct date on the internet. During this festival, you will see so many Lanterns (Khom Loy or Fai) flying in the sky. This view looks so amazing at night.

This festival is celebrated on full night moon in the 2nd of Thai Lanna calendar.

Yi Peng festival is celebrated with another festival named as Loy Krathong (the floating lantern festival). 

In Loy Krathong, a lotus-shaped basket with candles and flowers is released in the river. 

So if you are in Thailand during November then you should visit Chaing Mai. You will be surprised by watching so many lanterns in the sky. 

But yes this time you will see much crowed in Chiang Mai. And the hotel will be a little expansive. 

These lanterns are made of thin rice paper with a fire starter attached. When you fire the lantern it creates hot air and that leads to fly off this thin paper lantern. 

Thai people believe that during the time of Yi Peng Festival the moon is full, brightest and river are filled fully. Make a wish while releasing your Lantern in the sky. 

During this festival, the market and homes in Chiang Mai are decorated with colorful lanterns. 

Releasing the lanterns in the sky means, leaving your all misfortune and bad habits in the previous year. So many people believe that, when you make a wish during releasing your lantern, it will come true.

But you need to come in little advance to get a perfect seat. 

You can easily get your lantern during this festival so many venters are selling this. Buy a larger lantern this will cost not more than 100 Baht. 

You can also schedule your visit online for the Yi Peng festival to get a proper seat. They will give a Ticket.
