Car insurance is an agreement between insurance providers and car owners. A car owner needs to give some money or premium every year to the car insurance provider. And if there is any damage to the car due to bad circumstances then the insurance provider will pay for that.
Vehicle insurance is mandatory in India. When you buy a car the dealer will give you full information about car insurance. Because they have tie-ups with insurance providers.
If you don’t have a car or vehicle insurance then you will be fined 2000 INR or can have a jail for 3 months.
Types of vehicle insurance in India -
1.Third party - This insurance will give you limited protection. You can only claim here if your vehicle has done damage to other vehicles, persons,s, and properly.
This vehicle insurance is cheaper. And you should have this insurance for your car it's mandatory in India.
Cost of third party insurance -
It depends on your engine capacity. You pay for it once a year.
If your car engine capacity is less than 1000 CC then you need to pay - 2072 INR.
More than 1000 but less than 1500 CC - 3221 INR.
More then 1500 CC - 7890 INR
An accident if you get permanent disability or death then you can also claim till 1500000 INR (15 Lakhs) from Insurance provider. When we pay a premium there is an option for PA (personal accident cover).
In this PA option, you are paying 300 INR. And this is only for you. If you got a permanent disability or death during an accident if you have third-party insurance.
2. Comprehensive insurance -
This type of insurance is a little expensive. In this insurance, you can claim your personal damages like your car loose control and go outside from the road.
And your car is damaged fully. This means if there is no third party involved you can also get the claim.
You can also claim a third party claim in comprehensive insurance. That's why it's a little expensive.
Now if your car also damages in an accident then how will you pay? Here comes comprehensive insurance.
It's better to have comprehensive insurance if you have an expensive and new car. So if you have an accident, it will be covered by your insurance.
In what other circumstances you can claim in comprehensive insurance -
- If your car has damaged by natural disasters.
- Damaged by hitting any object or animal.
- Fire incidents
- If your car gets stolen
You can also add some addons in comprehensive insurance to protects your vehicle fully. These addons are -
- zero depreciation - If you take this addon it means you will get claims for all your car parts if they will get damaged.
This addon is valid only for the first 5 Years from the date of purchasing the vehicle. After 5 years you can not add a zero depreciation add-on.
- RTI - Return to the invoice. It means if your car gets steal or it gets fully damaged then you will get the full amount of the car. The claim will be the same as your pay for the new car when you buy it.
It's valid until 3 years from the car purchasing date.
- Paid or unpaid driver - In this Addon, if your driver gets injured while driving a car, then you can also claim for that.
- Engine protection - If your engine gets damaged then you can claim by using this addon.
What is No Claim Bonus or NCB -
If you did not claim anything to the insurance providers in one year then they will give you bouns. This bonus will increase every year if you are not claiming every time.
NCB is only provided in comprehensive insurance.
Cashless service center -
There should be a cashless service center in your city of the insurance company. If there is none then you have to pay first money to repair your car then take the bill to your insurance only then they will give you money.
How to get the best insurance for your car -
Just compare the service provided by the insurance provider then select the best one for you. You can also get insurance from your dealer but it can be a little expensive.
Just compare dealer prices with other insurance providers. If the dealer is giving you much expensive then it better to take for others.
When you can not claim in comprehensive insurance -
1.Any issue in the car due to aging.
2.Machanical issues.
3.Wear and tear of car parts like tires.
4.If you are driving without a license.
5.If the driver used alcohol or any others drugs
6.Damged vehicle during attacked by another country
How to claim your insurance? -
1.First you should note down the vehicle number of the vehicle which damages your car.
2.Contact your insurance company immediately.
3.File an FIR at the nearest police station as soon as possible.
