Bangkok Public transport system -
In this post, I will give you some important tips and information about Bangkok public transport.
Bangkok has these modes of public transport -
1. BTS Skytrain
2. MRT subway
3. Buses
4. Taxi
5. Motorbike taxi
6. Tuk - Tuk
7. Songthaews
8. Express boat
1. BTS Skytrain -
This is the major and most convenient transport hub in Bangkok. By BTS you can travel most of the famous places in Bangkok, like Chao Phraya Express boat and Airport link. This train is with AC and covers a total of 48 stations.

Timings -
5AM TO 11:30 PM
BTS Skytrain has 2 lines -
1. Sukhumvit - Kheha Samutprakan Station to Kasetsart University Station. This line covers 36 total stations.
If you want to go to Bangkok international airport you can ride to Phaya Thai. And then from there get an MRT to Suvarnabhumi.
2 more MRT station is connected with BTS and they are -
-Mo chit
-Asok
2. Silom - Bang Wa to National stadium.
BTS station is also connected with MRT stations. These 2 BTS lines are connected to Siam Station. So here you can change the BTS train. Siam station is the busiest station.
Tickets and Smart card -
You can get -
1. One day pass - Travel unlimited in BTS for one day and it will cost 140 Baht.
2. Rabbit card - Valid for 7 years and you can recharge fare till 4000 baht.
3. Tickets in the station - You can easily get any station tickets at BTS station. You just need to put coins. Don’t lose your ticket because you need it when you will exit.
2.MRT -
This is an underground transport system in Bangkok. MRT This has 2 lines blue and purple.
Blueline run from - Tao Poon to Hua Lamphong.
Purple line - Tao Poon to Khlong Toei.
If you have to use Delhi metro in India then you will not face any problem using Bangkok MRT because it's the same.
Timings -
6am to 11:30 pm every 10 minutes.
3. Buses -
These buses run from 5am to 11 pm. If you’re a tourist and want to see Bangkok at a low price then buses are an option for you. These buses cost around 10 to 20 baht.
There are 2 types of buses in Bangkok -
1. Buses with AC. Their color are usually Yellow and light orange. Fare can be from 15 to 30 baht.
2. Normal buses without AC are usually pink and blue+white in color.
But its not fixed in Bangkok that what clour bus will be AC.
The destination in these buses is written in Thai. So If you don’t know to read the Thai language then just write down or remember its number and color.
It can possible that you will see 2 buses with the same number but they have different routes.
So you need to remember -

The other way to find buses where your located is to use Google maps. Just type your destination and tap on public transport. It will show the buses number. So when the bus will reach just ride that.
Only the bad things with buses in Bangkok is traffic.
Another way to find which number of buses will go to your destination is - just see what buses are passing from your location and then note their number. Now just go to google and type route number of the bus in Bangkok. You will see the lists of locations where the bus will go.
If you want to stop the bus while you're inside the bus just press the button in front of your seat.
4.TAXI -
You can easily find a taxi in Bangkok. They don’t have fixed colors.
You can also book taxis by using apps like Grab and Uber.
If you leave something in the taxi just call 1644 or 1137. These are the numbers of a taxi radio station. But you should know the taxi number and color so they can easily find your things.
If you have a bad experience with taxi drivers then you can call to Tourist police in Bangkok. And their number is 1155.
5.Tuk-tuk -
This is the same as autorickshaw in Delhi. These are best for short journeys like within 5 Km.
Always fix the price first before going in. The driver will tell you a little more price then you have to make it less like 10 or 20 Baht less.
Tuk-Tuk fare can be the same or higher than a taxi in Bangkok.
If the driver will tell you I will take you that place and this place is so nice for tourists, Just say no. Like he can tell you I will take you to see beautiful girls in Bangkok. It can be a scam. Just tell him to drop you where you want.
Tuk-tuk is open from both sides so just keep your eyes on your things or else it can be snatched.
Tuk-tuk drivers can be very unfriendly and manner less sometimes so be careful.
The starting fare of Tuk-tuk is from 30 baht. Usually, for 5 km they will charge 80 to 100 Baht.
6.Chao Phraya express boat -
If you don’t want to stuck in Bangkok traffic then go around in Bangkok with Chao Phraya express boat. These boats have different colored flags. They have 4 colored flag boats each color has a different destination.
- Green flag boat - Sathorn Taksin to Pakkret. This boat covers the longest distance.
- Yellow - Sathorn Taksin to Nonthaburi
- Orange - Wat Rajsingkorn to Nonthaburi. No flag boat also covers the same route as orange colored.
- Blue - Sathorn Taskin to Phra Arthit. This Boat covers the shortest distance. This is a tourist boat. You can buy one day pass to ride unlimited. It will cost around 150 Baht.
The most common way to transport is orange colored flag boat.
It starts from 6am to 7pm. The next boat comes every after 20 minutes and costs around 20 Baht per person.
If you travel by Chao Phraya River boat then you can also some important tourist attractions of Bangkok.

How to reach Chao Phraya Express boat -
Just ride a BTS Skytrain to Saphan Taskin in the Silom line. Then take exit 2 and go toward the central pier.
