How to get a marriage certificate in India | Marriage under a special act
What is the use of a marriage certificate -
- If you want to claim a family pension, bank deposit, and life insurance.
- If you want to get a Passport and visa.
Marriage act in India -
There are 2 marriage acts in India.
1. Hindu marriage act 1955 - A marriage will be registered in the Hindu marriage act if both husband and wife have the same religion.
2. Special act marriage 1954 - If husband and wife have different religions or an Indians marry a Foreigner then the marriage will be registered as a Special act marriage.
Documents need to get marriage certificate -
1. An application form completely filled with the sign of Husband and wife.
2. Age proof of both.
3. 2 passport size photo of both and a photo of during marriage.
4. Separate marriage affidavit. Date of birth, place of marriage, date of marriage, nationality, and marital status should be mentioned in the affidavit.
5. Aaadhar card of both. If foreign national then the passport.
6. 100 INR for the Hindu marriage act and 150 INR is the fee for getting a marriage certificate.
7. Now go to the nearest Sub-divisional magistrate or SDM office to submit the required documents and get the marriage certificate.
The procedure of getting a marriage certificate in India (under special marriage act) -
1. First you need to register in your local Panchayat or Municipality. They will give an application form to get a marriage certificate. The husband and wife need to fill it.
2. Now go to the nearest Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office and submit the Application form with other required documents. You also need to get 3 witnesses with you.
3. Then you need to come back after 30 days to the SDM office to collect the marriage certificate.
